I'm contemplating installing Debian on my beloved Chuwi Hi12 tablet.
The machine is cheap (circa $300) and while there are certain bits of
the hardware that do not (yet) work under Linux there is nothing that
troubles me, and the graphics are superb - 2160x1440 on a 12" screen.
At present it is du

ve no login screen, no cursor, and cannot drop into a terminal
screen. I'm therefore completely locked out of the tablet.
Help would be exceedingly welcome on a route to recovering an
operational system. Thanks in advance for any pointers to a solution.

Running scanimage -L as root (su) yields the correct answer and identifies my
scanner.
Running scanimage -L as user yields "Segmentation fault" only.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to why this might be, and how I can identify
the reason for the problem?
Thanks.

The scanner is now working perfectly, but nothing from the printer
except CUPS test pages.
Help would be very very welcome.

US.UTF-8. While this gets the
job done, should there not be a locale choice for each country on the
planet (and maybe several for some countries). I can choose
America/Grand_Turk for a time zone, but have no such choice for a
locale.
I'd be happy to contribute the necessary information for a TCI locale,
but how to go about getting it built-in.

Thanks to all the participants in the thread. I've been wrestling with
this problem since the recent time change, and have not been able to
resolve the issue up to now, but I now see the source of the problem.
