I have a HP Brio (desktop), dual booting Win2k and Debian.
In W2k I use the Stand-by option as it:1. Saves the session2. Is
silentIs there such an option in Debian, as the machine is in my bedroom
and evenits relatively quiet sound during inactivity is slightly

the answer, in case anyone has the same problem, was to add the following
Option to XFree86-4 in the screen section:
Option "XaaNoMono8x8PatternFillRect"
in the "Screen" section of XF86Config-4
which I found at
