Thanks for the suggestion, I just now installed libarchive-ar-perl,
but Ark still cannot recognize AR archive :-(
Strangely, it can open .DEB which is also a type of AR archive, but
not "pure" AR archives themselves.

Hi,
Like y'all know, AR archive is used for static libraries [ libxyz.a ].
When opening it with Ark (KDE 4.4.5, Squeeze), it pops with with error
"Unable to determine archive type". Instead it presents a list of all
archive formats which it recognizes, but this list does not include AR
archive.
Thanks Bob, Tom and Porcia ! Bob's "Bohr model of linux kernel" was an
excellent one. I was just curious to know the nomenclature of that
package & now i have an idea of what happens. I'm happy with current
kernel because all my hardware is detected/working properly, so I find
no reason to upgrade
5 but "installed version" is
2.6.32-39 ! Am I missing something ?
