play mp3s using console-based players like "splay".
So I'd like to be able to boot into X login, then back out of X when
I'm through "working", free up that precio
Thanks to the advice of this group, I can now dual-boot using Lilo.
Thanks again. Now I need to figure out how to configure the proper
file that controls how Debian boots up. I like having the automatic
X login screen, but whenever you try to logout or explicitly kill
the process in a console, i

I don't babysit the Debian User List religiously, so I'm not sure if your problem was even addressed or solved (going through old messages now).
When I first installed Debian Woody on my i486 133mhz, 64meg RAM, 1.2gig system with a Trident SVGA videocard, I had the same type of problem that you h

Whenever I create the alias: [alias 'ls=ls --color=auto'] it works just fine until I log out and then log back in, then, magically, it's not there. Why doesn't linux save these changes to disk?

I was very much impressed by the way make-kpkg compiled and made my custom
kernel that I wanted to create packages the same way. Should I compile them to

t week. lots of error 111. I
am using S3 Virge and Voodoo2. This happened "everytime" I installed potato.
1) Pressed Ctrl+Alt+Bkspace when It is going to X ( well not relly going into X
just blinking)
2) If it doesn't work try Ctrl+C when the installer prompts for an enter key.
3) Just let the installer continue
4) Use XF86Setup after you have logged in.
I'm not sure if this will work for you, keep me informed with you r progress.
