I'm still trying to install ALSA on my new potato system. I've
progressed some, but I'm still stumped. Here's what I've done so far:
1. I realized I didn't have the kernel source installed, so I did
apt-get install kernel-source-2.2.18pre21 from stable. However, this did
not create

apt-get
I too just migrated from Red Hat. Debian rules.

I recently migrated to Debian potato from RedHat, and I am thrilled,
with the exception of my sound card setup. I haven't been able to get it
to work, and the online documentation I've seen is confusing and
contradictory. The Debian install manual doesn't mention sound at all,
and Linuxdoc recommen

But, I think my boot disk is defective, since it takes 5-7 minutes for

Loading Linux..
process to complete from /dev/fd0 before Linux actually boots. I suspect
I have a bad floppy, a
a HOWTO available for newbies such as myself on how
to install via FTP?
I have a cable modem and I believe this is probably the easiest way for me to
install.
