I recompiled my kernel 2.4.2, and did all of the System.map,
vmlinuz copying, then ran LILO (which seemed quite happy).
However, when I boot the computer, I get the following prompt,

On shaky ground, I believe that modversions.h is created
during kernel compilation, and is remove by 'make mrproper'

As far as I know, xdm uses .xsession and startx uses .xinitrc
Try creating an .xsession file along these lines:
xterm &
exec wmaker

Sounds like a really cool idea... perhaps you could assign
events to key presses and mouse movements in your window
manager, though redirecting to stdin is a more elegant idea.
Could you make the program available when you've finished it?

I am having problems with XFree86 4, downloaded
as part of a dist-upgrade from potato to woody.
When I try to start the X server with 'startx'
the server spits that it cannot stat /etc/X11/X
and aborts with signal 2.
Neither xf86cfg nor XFree86 -configure work: they
