Yesterday, I took the leap and upgraded from Sarge to Etch by following
the Etch release notes as best I could. The upgrade appeared to work
very well, but for some font problems. I'm very new to debian and
linux, so may have made some poor decisions during the upgrade.

to Etch and all went pretty well, except for some X services, i.e., the
XDM and XFS services are no longer started at boot, nor can I start them
manually with /etc/init.d/. Other TCP services like SSH

Kinda new to Debian, and Linux, so forgive me if this has been covered
to death already, but the docs suggest that users can customize an X
session simply by placing the '.xsession' file into their home
directory. This is not working for me; adding an .xsession file to my
