Exim works fine. I don't think you're braindead. Take a look at
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2005/10/msg00460.html. This is what
helped me get my mail setup work
package and installed
some packages that interfere with the plugin. I remember some
strange-looking java-related packages selected in aptitude at one point.
I have scanned my packages and I don't see anything unusual installed,
however.
I appreciate any tips on how to debug this better.
Try putting this in your /etc/fstab
/dev/sda1 /media/flashvfatrw,user,noauto 0 0
and then making the directory /media/flash.
