This is on the machine that has the problem.
Has anyone seen this problem? Any advice?

I have a file system that was damaged, and I lost some files that had
been installed by dselect/dpkg. Is there some way to ask dselect/dpkg
to figure out the missing files and re-install them?

but I am not aware of a WIN95 version of this. If you
created a (relatively minimal) linux partition on your cdrom machine,
then you could split the .deb files and copy them to floppies.

t will simply get out of sync. That is why
you see only six characters instead of the 9 in the "Password:"
prompt.
I don't know if ttyS1 can be configured to send more stop bits.
Perhaps your terminal can be configured to expect fewer.

make sense to do the --update-avail, then go into dselect to see what
other packages I may have to install as well. Then, if I either don't
have or don't want these other packages or don't have the disk space or
whatever, I can just forget about installing foobar.

ll it using dpkg, but isn't there a way to tell
dselect about the new package?

My guess is that the new machine (koko) is not in the older machines
/etc/hosts files, or equivalently, not in your name server's database.
Some ftp daemons will refuse connections from anonymous IP addresses
(ie. IP addresses for which a machine name cannot be found).

looking for a
directory named .../stable/binary, when the 1.1 beta distribution is
in .../unstable/binary.
After regaining familiarity with it, however, I really like dselect.
I don't see how a 80x24 chui could be made much better, while still
having all the power that it has.
