Hello List,
I found and fixed the problem.
Apparently the SiliconImage Sil 3114 has problems with grub if it is
not running the latest BIOS, which is version 5.5.
So, after using FreeDos to update the BIOS on the controller to the
latest version every

It has 4 1TB hard drives, two of them connected to the internal SATA
