yway, I am wondering whether anyone else has tried KDE4 and if any of
these 'quirks' have happened. I liked what I saw of KDE4 and will use
it, however, stability and further development is required and suppose
as time goes on these will continue to advance.

dist-upgrade. It does fall over due to the changeover to udev and
troubles using a 2.6.8 kernel. Upon doing that, it worked a treat..

this, I remember quite a few modules
that changed, and might have given that exact message at boot time.
Check in /etc/modules for any old modules that
aren't working anymore, and change them in that file.
Otherwise, just run modconf. I think modconf works with
.ko modules nowadays.

This weekend I made an update via dftp. I also upgraded to mutt
0.95.1i which is in slink. Now my /etc/mailcap has changed. There are
no more text/* entries. eg. text/html

How can I compile the newest Smail Debian source under Debian 1.3.1?
