custom kernel ~2.4.20.
So: sshd never starts, except when run from the tty with the -d (debug)
flag.
Any help? I have to leave town and have to have this machine up and
listening for ssh in a few HOURS.

`man' is hosed on my Debian system. When logged in as root and I try
`man' or `info' I get "execv: permission denied" error. It seems
