x27;s weird, my box also hangs with constant disk-usage, not heavy
but when writing a CD, a few blocks per sec.
Also, Windows has NO problems at ALL running with the same box.

I don't see any real problems sharing /boot and /home.
Don't try sharing /usr or /var... It will mess up both Mandrake and
Debian, both of the dists overwriting programs and settings.

to recompile the kernel with support for your IDE-chipset in order to

old 486 (with a clean system) from floppy disks. Everything seemed to be
working fine and the base was installed, but when I tried to boot it from
the HD it returned only the message LI and then froze. I managed to boot

boot from the hard disk, the letters LI appeared and the system froze. I

I resolved the problem of booting Linux by making my win98 drive hda again
and reinstalled Debian on hdb (at the moment, I am just experimenting with
Linux). This works fine, I have to fine-tune loadlin, but that works.
When trying to load loadlin from config.sys with the [menu] command, it

and after doing /sbin/lilo, no result. (message: loading dos, nothing
happens after that)
