Does anyone have an idea as to how this could have happened, or how it
can be fixed? I've tried reinstalling postfix, and I'm sending this
with exim, which seems to work fine.

AIK they are about equally good/fast for purpose of file

HTTP has less overhead, IIRC. For example, resumable FTP transfers
require passing additional data. No such thing for HTTP. By
stripping out all the overhead, HTTP has fewer features, but is
faster.
