I was able to stop xdm from running at startup by:
1) running Debian setup from the CD and pressing ALT + F2 on the first screen
2) mounted my root drive so I could move and copy files
3) moved /etc/init.d/xdm to my home directory for temporary storage
4) unmounted the root drive
5) rebooted the ma
I have xdm configured to start when the system boots up. I changed my X
configuration and now the system is in a loop trying to start X and failing.
I am able to boot from my Debian CD, but don't know what to do when I get
there.
How can I:
1) prevent xdm from trying to run at startup OR

I have sound! I am now able to play a CD through the speakers on my PC. I
currently have a working boot diskette with sound compiled into the kernel.
I had several problems which turned out to be due to bad diskettes. The next

I have set up hamm on my IBM Aptiva (model 2153-E2U). I would like to get
the built-in sound card working, but it appears I will have to recompile the
kernel. Since I am a LINUX newbie, this is not a trivial task.
