What kernel version are you using? (use "uname -r" to find out). I think that SB16 is an ISA card, so you have to turn on ISA PNP. You can do it using ISAPNP (install the "sndconfig" package). Or you can update to the 2.4.18 kernel which has true ISAPNP capabilities. (way easier to configure) I
