Installing netatalk on Debian (Woody)

2004-03-21 Thread Roland Dunn
Hi, Anyone had any experience of installing netatalk on Debian (Woody)? I have read that it requires a kernel recompile but wondered whether this is truly the case? Is it not possibly as simple as apt-get netatalk? I've installed the idepci version of DEBIAN (Woody) - anyone know if netatalk in

See /etc/nsswitch.conf? The order of the options defines the order in which they're used. >> Thanks. I do very much wish to do this. So, I've altered my /etc/nsswitch.conf to look like: # /etc/nsswitch.conf # # Example configuration of GNU Name Service Switch functionality. # If you have the `gl

Hi Alexis, Thanks - in the end it was my own stupidity. The NIS server is an old RedHat machine, I forgot to edit /etc/hosts.allow to include the new server. One thing though - the root password for my new (DEBIAN) server is the local root password - how can I tell the new server to take its' roo

NIS Client Problem

I'm trying to join a Debian(Woody) machine to a NIS network. I'm getting the "YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN: Domain not bound" error on startup. Is there any logfile I can look into to try to debug this? Any routines I can try to see how /etc/init.d/nis or /usr/sbin/ypbind is trying to find the NIS server?

Hi, Having typed: "update-alternatives --config x-session-manager" and choosen GNOME, GNOME now starts up on reboot. I'd like it not to so that I can type "startx" when I want it to go into GNOME. How can I force it not to launch GNOME on reboot? Cheers Roland. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to

Newbie question: moving from RedHat to Debian

Hello, Wonder if anyone can help. I've just moved from RedHat to Debian and have a couple of queries: - Anyone know of any sites that try to make such moves simple for users - that list some of the common differences between Debian and RedHat? - On RedHat /etc/rc.d/init.d/ was where you could find

Hi, I've just installed DEBIAN (Woody) on my machine. When I run startx to launch X, it seems to launch X, I see the cross mouse cursor, (I can move the mouse cursor) the KDE screen pops up, goes through the first couple of icons on the startup screen (looks like a nucleus and electrons type icon,
