I hope someone can help me with this - I'm not a Debian guru and I didn't find anything in the list archives that was relevant to this. Here goes: If I run free, I notice that after awhile the numbers on the buffers line show upwards of 4GB of memory. If I let this stay this way eventually things

Well - upon more investigation I found this to be in the debian bug report logs - #12245. This report talks about bogus +/- buffers free readings. Sorry about the posts - I guess I should have dug a little further. Still doesn't explain my out of memory errors - hmmm. Robert Robert Z

I know this sounds like a joke but in my efforts to troubleshoot my problem with /etc/init.d/boot not executing I inadvertently overwrote it. Does anyone know where I can get a vanilla copy of this script for the latest stable distribution? Maybe email it to me? Please? Thanks A LOT. Robert

Hi. I have a really stupid issue that I'm sure I will be flamed for but I'm going to ask anyway. My server crashed upon rebooting. I can not log in locally - get an error like "666:unable to change tty" /dev/tty1 for user root bad file number or something like that. Now here's the stupid part -

dselect times out

when I try to update my list of available packages via ftp, the transfer times out every time. I usually only get about 100k of the packages.gz file regardless of where I request it from. FTP *to and from* the server is really slow and usually times out, but other network traffic seems to be norm
