XMMS playback fault!

XMMS plays all mp3s too fast, and high pitched, It did this before upgrading to woody. I have a AMD K6-5 550MHz on a TMC m/b with on board VIA chipset sound, but I don't think hardware is the problem. Any ideas??? Rich
