Sorry but I am confused.
If you add a physycal hard disk, the kernel upon recognizing it will assign
a DRIVE id such as /dev/hda for the first IDE drive, /dev/hdb, /dev/hdc for
the third IDE and so on.
Now, on you /dev/hdc drive you will need some partitions. Each primary
partition is called /dev
What XFree level package did you install ?
How did you generate the XF86Config-4 ?
Cheers. Bob

I now have an unstable dist working fine on my PC ... only thing I am
keeping back is the pcmcia-cs and source and the 2.2.19 kernel from potato
since my Token Ring PCMCIA works with these ...
For a number of other reasons I'd like to go to 2.4.10 ... any experience on
the TR PCMCIA out there ??
My Debian box has an internal scsi CD burner.
I would like to periodically (weekly ?) backup my /etc (around 8 megs) and
some (not all) of my /home directories.
Can I setup some task to perform such backups on the CD (multiple sessions ?
multiple files ?) until it's filled up ?
Thank you. Bob A
I have a Debian box used only by a few friendly users for very practical
services such as squid, dns, ftp, samba etc...
The Debian system is sooo incredibly intelligent 8-> that it magically
mostly takes care of itself.
I just lazily have a look from now and then at the df output, sometimes
check
cat /etc/resolv.conf
what dows it say ? it should point to a working DNS
to check if that DNS is up and running:
nslookup - x.y.w.z
where x.y.w.z is the IP address of the named daemon you are pointing to
at the > prompt ask to resolve your hostname (fully qualified ending with a
dot e.g. www.d
Could you advice on names of Debian packages supporting secure POP3 and/or
IMAP that can use be used via MS Outlook Express clients ?
Than you very much.

I would like to have qpopper authenticating not on the system's

passwords in the clear).
Someone told me that qpopper supporto PAM authentication ...

Dear friends,
I have desperately searched some appends but really cannot understand if
they apply to my case.
With XFree 3.x I had a perfect XF86Config for my Matrox G400 driving my 16"

Upgraded to 4.1.10 (on a 2.4.10 kernel) and am not able to get the
XF86Config-4 to work and I cann
I have a 18GB SCSI HDD.
I have created a first partition (around 6GB) which is labeled /dev/sdb1.
It's in use and works great (a Squid cache).
Now I would like to create a Debian rsync mirror on the last 12GB ...

At a certain point I needed to install a qpopper 4.x debian package which
