system doesn't start (I paste below the log I get).
Removing this package, X works (using the VESA driver, I guess), but
the screen resolution is quite bad (800x600).
There is no xorg.conf in /etc/X11.
What should I do?

it (I happen to like it), so I don't consider this a big

So, why did configuring the latest kernel require a deprecated library?
