urrently the SOCKS4 and SOCKS5
protocols are supported, and ssh will act as a SOCKS server. Only root
can forward privileged ports. Dynamic port forwardings can also be
specified in the configu‐ ration file.

Thanks for the help! I will now try if squeeze is viable
ed locale, spits out "line=..." and after that
switches to "de_DE.UTF-8". The locale after booting the freshly
installed system was "de_DE.UTF-8".
I have to mention that this is still lenny. Perhaps there are old bugs?
