I, like at least 75% of people, don't run telnetd.

Simon,
Is this thing still on, while you wait to see what to do with it?
Just reboot it. It's not a problem.
If it turns out to be a problem (5% chance), you can download a rescue floppy
image from the internet and create a rescue disk with a Windows machine.

This is a bad sign on its own. Were the fans blocked? Do you have power
management setup properly?
Certainly Debian will run under VPC *if* RedHat can.
Are you running OS X? Consider running a rootless X server on your Mac native,
and telling Linux apps to display their output, via the network, there.
VPC can network with the host environment, right?
If you need more help with this, I sugges

Hey,
If you're on a workstation, you probably don't need to be [or IMO, shouldn't
be] running an MTA at all.
You can install ssmtp and fetchmail/getmail, and may find that you no longer
need an MTA at all.
ssmtp is a replacement for sendmail that uses your ISP's smarthost to send all

Hello!
Does anyone know of a utility to make an animated screen capture under X?
I need to make a movie of my X desktop, applications, mouse functions, etc.
If you do not know of a specific utility, would you know of any method of
doing it?
Note that I do need to see what I'm doing while making
