This, as far as I know, is actually referring to the feature in Red Hat (and
Red Hat variants, like Mandrake) where you can press 'i'
while init is starting. This allows you to interactively choose which things
you want to run and which you want skipped. To answer
the original question: don'
No benchmarks on hand, but I can tell you the difference between them
is that the i586 distros (like Linux-Mandrake) are compiled using gcc's
optimizations. Theoretically, using the most advanced instruction set
you can will improve performance, as newer chips do things like combine

Did you enable Event Interface Support in the Input Core section?
Did you enable HID support (either full or basic) in the USB Support

Modem: Go with external. You can rest assured they are not WinModems and will
work under Linux. My USRobotics 56k external
modem worked great up until I got DSL. :)
Sound Card: I've only used a Creative AWE64 Gold card. It has worked almost
flawlessly using the Sound Blaster driver.

I was able to get RAID 1 working with kernel 2.2.19, using the patch
available from http://people.redhat.com/mingo/raid-patches
I used the "Boot+Root+Raid+Lilo: Software Raid HOWTO," and "The
Software-RAID HOWTO" To get everything set up, along with a sample
