But, if I just use 'cat sig' the output is correct.
If I type 'fortune' in a terminal I receive correct output so I assume fortune
is installed correctly.
I hope I have explained myself here.

I have installed debian (via a Knoppix CD), and overwritten a previous Linux
distro. My /home folder exists from the previous distro and I have added
myself as a user. However I cannot seem to be able to access all my old data
on /home.

This is an extract from my /etc/fstab -
"/dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1 ntfs,ro,noauto,users,exec,uid=mark,gid=mark 0 0".
As user mark I cannot open this folder, but can as root. The installation is a
hd install from a knoppix CD, giving me pretty much a woody installation
