I finally decided to try lerning doing typesetting with LaTeX.
I had already installed tetex-packages when I was installing linux, but
when I tried to use LaTeX it comlained about missing files.
I reinstalled tetex-packages using dselect, but even during installation
some files were missing.

I made some programs using svgalib. But I can run those programs only
when I am root. When I am not root, I get following error message:
svgalib: Cannot open /dev/console
Any other svgalib programs (precompiled from debian-packages) are
running without problems.

I am using ppp to conect to my uni-server.
I can connect and WWW is working fine. But because of some problems with the
server the only way to use ftp is by using a linux program pftp (win users
can't use no ftp programs at all :). Using netscape as ftp is working, but
it is bad for download

when I'm not logged in as root, I can start X but many programs I try to run
give the following error: cannot open display.
I can run the same programs as root, without any problems.
Probably I have to change permitions for opening Xdisplay, but I couldn't
find how.

I tried to compile some programs for X11 with:
gcc prog1.c -lX11
The compilation went O.K., then the linker complained that it couldn't find
X11 library.
I have installed almost every -dev package but I still think that the right

when I tried to instal xpaint, dselect complained that netpbm is recomended
but netpbm doesn't seems to available. The same is with xview-clients.
dselect recomends xtoolplaces and it is not available.
Does anybody know what's going on?
