Both - there are hardlinks between the slightly mangled names in the
trees under pc and the names that are hashes of the content in pool
(or cpool if compression is used). They have to be in the
a situation where you have several hosts containing copies of the
same files since backuppc will pool all the duplicates in its storage. Of
course you may also want some less frequent image copies of the host for faster
restores if you need to rebuild from scratch.

some of my busier list subscriptions to a gmail.com account
set up so I can pull a copy back via pop. Within the free 1 gig
storage limit it is easy to find old stuff even after I delete my
local copy.
