Do you know root password ?
Then when you boot in lilo just go to init 1 and fix the configuration in
/etc/inittab

You don't need compile again if you
choose sb16 compatible sound support as modules,
just lsmod if you not sure.
If exist then modprobe the module.
If not up to you (compile again or not).
