I have heard the driver shipped with the card won't work with win98. You
probably need to download a updated driver from 3com's web site.

I never had problems with cheap NE-2000
The following commands should enable the card:
depmod -a
modprobe 3c59x
lsmod
and then use ifconfig. If the card still cannot be found, please shutdown
and power off then on, and try above. If still fails, please send me the
system message.
