hi,
I had problems trying to use the (non-free) nvidia kernel module
generated from nvidia-kernel-source and I found out that the device
files /dev/nvidia[ctl|0|1] were not created by any of the nvidia*
packages, and are also not created by the MAKEDEV script nor by the
udev package.

hi :)
i've been using my own compiled kernels for the last couple of years.
After getting somewhat tired of compiling them, i tried the stock
kernels. But they just won't boot, looping with a message like (it
doesn't log the message):

I've just done it a couple of weeks ago, and it's working great. Read
the stuff, because mostly it works the same for Debian :)
Anyway there are different configurations for a diskless machine, and
each one requires different steps. Just as an overview:

hi,
I have two computers connected with a crossover cable (BTW, thanks
&rw), both with 100Mb/s ethernet cards (SIS900 & RealTek 8139) but
they seem to be connected only by 10Mb/s (NFS transfers are at a bit
more than 1 mbyte/s). I just compiled the drivers into the kernel.

should be shared ("/home", "/usr" a part of "/etc") and which not
("/tmp", "/var", another part of "/etc"). And how t

hi all,
I'm trying to compress with passwords a couple of hundred files using
"zip" (I have to use this, as some of the compressed files will go to

fooling it, so
I think my .Xmodmap may help you with this. It sets the two "windows"
keys as "Mod3" (which I assign to window manager functions) and the
"menu" key to "compose", aka "Multi_key". The compose key will be
accepted by most of the software (all gnome, xemacs, powershell(this
one is great), gnome-termi

hi,
I'm trying to execute a "HelloWorld" program in java,
but after compiling it, when running, it segment faults:
$ java -v HelloWorld.class

Loading java/io/Serializable.class(/usr/lib/jdk1.1/lib/classes.zip)

for those following this subject, the new version 0.25.2-2 has just
fixed this problem, and sawmill was worth the (minimal thanks to

thanks for the answers ...

hi,
untill someone with real knowledge help you, you may try using one of
the Vesa modes (I suppose ATI Charger supports it). But to use this
you will have to set the Console/Frame Buffers/Vesa VGA support for
the kernel. And then select one of the vesa modes listed in the

hi all,
I've just installed the Sawmill 0.25.2-1 package, but sawmill won't
run, and keep mumbling
"error--> (invalid-function (macro . #))"
to me, each time I run :)
if I run it with the "--interp" option it seems to run, but without
the menus and don't know what else -- I've never used it.
