I can't find a configuration or commandline option, so I guess
there is some kind of heuristics built in, that's just failing at your site.

should compile your own kernel and make sure you select Yes on the "Unix
Socket"-Option in the Networking menu (the option name in the help menu

after migrating my system from 2.4.22 to 2.6.0, I find myself unable to
use my ISDN card, which worked perfectly with the fcpcipnp module under
2.4.*.
When the card tries to dial up, I get the following backtrace:
