Actually' you'll probably want to use:
mpg123 -w file.wav file.mp3 rather than the -o switch. This will make
absolute sure it writes .wav output to the .wav file.

Hi
How do I find out my video bios address and size so I can map it into
dosemu to allow some games to run which need the extended features of the

Hello
Emacs/w3 doesn't seem to recognize the way metamail handles .mailcap commands,
for example the %s to pass the filename as an argument to the program. I know
its w3 because lynx works fine with it. Is there any way w3 can be set to
recognize this?

When trying to upgrade to the latest potato release I get the following error:

There's no package that seems to be associated with the error and there's no

I've got 32 mb in this p166 mmx system. The problem is that I have 32mb and at
the shell prompt, 31mb is used up when I type free. Is debian really eating all
that memory or is it something else?? There's dos/win on this pc too so I'm
wondering if the tech person didn't enable shadow ram
If you mean installing the base system, then I have done so from a hard disk.
Note that it is recommended that you only install the basesystem from the
harddisk and then install the other stuff from the net.

It is called update-agent. It can do almost the same things as apt can do. The
main difference is that you can only get updates from priority.redhat.com,
while apt can get them from any mirror. Update-agent for rh6.1 only runs in an
X session. I'd take debian apt-get any day.

Is there a way to put a package on hold from the command line? I'd prefer not

Try apsfilter rather than magicfilter. Note, only the version provided with
potato seems to have any specific modules for the deskjets. The one that comes
with slink seems to only have one module for the colored deskjets. After you
get apsfilter installed, run /usr/sbin/apsfilterconfig to set it

I've finally got my system upgraded to debian potato (don't know how I got
emacs installed). However, my sound card only partially works. Wav and au

This worked on redhat with its sndconfig utility. The exact details of
I think we are looking at a package problem, a compiler bug in the
package, or maybe both. Maybe its emacs, maybe its the new compiler that
comes with potato. Either way, there's a package problem.
