Hi all,
I'm using Debian sid on a Dell XPS, Core i7 with Nvidia. The battery
duration and the fan control is much better on Windows 7 than on
Debian, unfortunately. I'm trying to improve this situation, so

Hi all,
I'm planning to get a laptop soon and gonna run Debian on it. I'm
gonna need a few things:
- HDMI/DVI output support, as I usually use a 22' Dell external monitor;
- A good processor, at least i5/i7 Lynnfield/Arrandale;
- A good video card, with good 3D support on Debian - I develop a

Hi all,
I have to make a backup plan for a server that is physically very far away
from me right now. If for some reason this server goes south, I have to have
a plan and it has to be done quickly. The problem is that the personnel that
is on site doesn't know squat about Linux (or computers, for

Hi all,
I've seen a lot of traffic lately about how to compile a fresh kernel, from
debian ou vanilla, in this list. After the changes in make-kpkg and
kernel-package, I'm now completely lost. Before the changes, I just had to
issue make-kpkg with --initrd (and others) flags, and 1) the kernel was
Hello all,
I'm using Debian Sid amd64, with xorg version 7.4+4, and the Nvidia driver.
Everything runs smoothly, but after some time (a day or two) Xorg keeps
using more and more memory. For example, when Xorg is just started, it uses
858m shared and 30 resident. After two days, it grows to 1300m

Did anybody succesfully used the intel compilers on sid? Any pointers?
Thanks!

Hello all,
I'm running Sid (kernel 2.6.30) on a Core i7 with 4G of memory. Everything
runs smoothly until some programs hit the VM (like using eclipse, amarok,
iceweasel and azureus at the same time). Even if one of the memory hoggers
is killed, or all of them, if the VM was hit and some swap was

Hello all,
Did anybody succeeded in running a Pixelview PlayTV Xtreme Global TV on
debian? The chip is printed as conexant 23883-39, and lspci identifies
this board as Conexant cx2388x/1/2/3 (rev 5). I've tried putting

Hello everybody,
