Hi,
I am having some trouble with my fonts since a recent update (aptitude upgrade)
of my debian sid system. It's all in bug # 390681.
I am trying to get my hands on xserver-xorg-core version 2:1.1.1-8 (latest is
2:1.1.1-9) as I don't keep old packages. I stumbled upon a website or ftp

Hi all,
I performed an upgrade yesterday to my SID system. I know these are
tough times with the migration to gcc 4.0 and everything, and that I
should have been more careful, but I messed up. I am still not sure
where. Now (after a reboot), when I am in KDE, nothing appears on the
panel menu exce

Hi,
After upgrading to X.Org and kernel 2.6.12 today, when I create a soft
symlink in /dev called mouse pointing to psaux, the next time I boot,
it will no longer be there. Tried it quite a few times. I can't explain
it. Can you?
I am a little uncomfortable putting /dev/psaux instead of /dev/mouse

Hi again,
For a few days now, I have been trying to update five packages
(file-roller nautilus nautilus-cd-burner totem totem-xine) but aptitude
/ synaptic / apt-get all say that upgrading these packages will cause
some problems. The most common problem is the removal of gnome,

Hi all,
I am not sure I am posting in the right place, so please let me know if
it is so. Thanks.
For a few days now, I noticed that the non-US packages on the mirrors I
use for apt/aptitude/synaptic are unreachable. I use
ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org for everything. I just checked the site itself,

Hi all,
I am trying to make my custom-compiled 2.6.11 kernel (source package
version 2.6.11-5) bootable. For lilo and since 2.6, i have both vmlinuz
links and initrd images for my kernels. For some reason, this one is
not going through. I usually end up building the initrd images myself

Hi all,
I am in a bit of weird situation. I am running a dual boot system. I
need to be able to let someone I know but lives far be able to upload
30 GB or so of data to my PC or download stuff off of it. I also need
to be able to get it all to the windows side. Yeah, I know you don't

Hi,
Each time my kernel boots, I see flashing on my screen for a sec the
word "FATAL" followed (on a seperate line) by kernel modules' names. I
am not sure what the FATAL error message is as it goes out of my screen
way too fast.
I tried a few log files in /var/log such as dmesg, messages, syslog

Hi,
I am currently developing an app that uses two libraries (ClanLib & MySQL++). I
installed clanlib
through configure, make, make install as the clanlib package for debian is way
too old. Clanlib is
installed in /usr/local/lib, /usr/local/include, and /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig.

Hi,
I tried the nV News forums but I got no replies yet, so I thought some of you
here might have had
the same problem I am having.
I am running Debian SID/unstable with kernel 2.6.9 and KDE 3.3. I have an Asus

Hi,
I have an AMD 64 [Socket 754] processor. However, I installed Debian Sarge for
the x86
architecture. Is it best to stay like this, or to change to a 64 bit one? As I
was told that the
x86 kernel is optimized for the Hammer processor.
And if I want to change, is it enough to compile a kernel

Hi,
I am trying to develop this game under Debian Woody 3.0r2 (very cutomized though)
using plib and
the OpenGL libraries. To run the application I need mesag3. The thing is that when I
