hda not recognized during install

Hello everyone, I am trying to install Debian and ran into some problems. My harddisk is not recognized during bootup so I am not able to install the system from harddisk. I use an ASUS A7V mainboard, with ata100 controller and Maxtor DMax 5400/512 harddisk. Any help would be appreciated.
