Ok, I have to admit my ignorance on this, so I turn to you all. I've got a
dialup connection, no problem there, except that when I have been working in
the computer for some time without being connected (like maybe 2-3 hours)
and then try to connect, I can't. I looked at the syslog and it displays

Ok, It seems like the cool-factor of LISP is as high as you can get, but what
are it's practical merits? If one intends to hack Emacs, then LISP is of
course essential, but does
Hi,
I have a dialup connection to the net, a mailbox at Yahoo (I'm a bit on the
move) that I access using pop3 retreaval with Fetchmail, and since I really
want to use Mutt (pretty sure it's safe to admit that in this crowd:-) I
guess I have to use Exim as the smtp-server. I'm not sure, though, if
Did you compile the sound support as module? I had some problem with the
ESS1868 soundcard, I didn't read the documentation in the first round, and
the support in the new kernel is a bit different from the 2.2.x kernels.
Anyway, read all the docs concerning sound and your specific soundcard, and

I have the same problem. I updated the kernel to 2.4.2 and the sound became
partly disabled. According to dmesg the kernel finds and sets the soundcard
correctly (I have ESS1868), I can play soundfiles by sending them to either
/dev/audio or /dev/dsp, using cat (this I can do both as root and norma
I haven't been able to connect to the kde.tdyc.com server for the last two
days (the connection always times out), so I was wondering if there was a mirror
site available?

You can solve this by making a directory in another more spacious partition
(/home for example) and make /var/cache/apt/archives/ a symlink to that
directory.
hope this helps,

hi,
Happened to me too. Try to set the LC_LCTYPE argument to your locale, put
something like this in your /etc/profile:
LC_CTYPE='fr_FR' (or whatever it is)
export LC_CTYPE
When I did this it didn't work right away, even if I executed it from the
command line, but when I booted next time, everyt
Hi,
I had a similar problem once, and that seemed to be an Xauthority problem.
Did you use xdm to login before installing gdm? If so, did it work fine? If
it worked fine, then the problem lies somewhere else. If you didn't use xdm
before, try to start X and run some app from an xterm window, like:
Hi all,
I recently installed potato and I'm trying to get truetype fonts going. I
noticed that the X-tt truetype server is installed, but haven't been able to
find any useful documentation to get it going (the examples file in
/usr/doc/xtt is in japanese!). Does anyone know of some nice
