Hi all!
I've the same problem...
On the same pc, with windows xp internet is fast (about 80k) but with
the latest debian etch, internet is very very very slow (about 25k)!!
I've installed debian sarge, dist-upgrading to etch and the download
speed is about 80k. But installing the deb linux-image
utput Plugin 1.2.7
3. Disk Writer Plugin 1.2.7
And non of them seem to work.
Exactly the same error message I got. I know you got it working with
artsd but I figure that others might want to know how to fix the problem
otherwise first.

I submitted a bug report stating that some of us would like a
debian-gamedev or debian-devel-games mailing list created. We'll see how
it turns out.

I am still new to the Linux world (used Win98 as my main system until I
finally got set on making KDE/OpenGL/SB sound work together), but I
would love to be part of a group of programmers/developers of games.
I have some experience but it is mostly hobby stuff. I made a Pacman
vidia drivers.
Should I have apt-get installed them instead? Will there be problems
with using something that was not packaged for Debian? Or does using the
newer drivers have no effect other than getting the coolest special
effects (Quake 3 Arena never looked so nice!).
Thanks,

The "Game Programming Gems" books might be a good reference for
different coding samples/ideas.
As far as walking you through from start to finish, Gamedev.net is your
best bet. Warning, it is Windows-centric mostly, although there is a
*nix forum and I find the forums to be very helpful.
Hope this helps!
