I don't know about the tape usage but the command to list the archive is
tar -tf /dev/tape (assuming /dev/tape is your device. Further
tar -ztf lists a compressed archive.

A colleague of mine has installed knoppix 3.3 on his 350Mhz K2 machine

at command should I use to do incremental backups with tar?
Since the u argument only appeared to backup later copies of already
exhisting files on the tape and the r argument appended everything
again. I would use the N argument but I don't know the date format.

I am having difficulty installing sarge due to hardware problems with
its kernel. I can inst woody which will not 'recognise' the devices.
Is it possible to use apt to install sarge? If so, how?
