As I understand it, you would need to alter the source code of the SSH
daemon and rebuild it to get that functionality. People doing that
though usually only run the modified SSH on a 'honeypot' box that is
there purely to capture log in attempts for further analysis.

I don't know about the tape usage but the command to list the archive is
tar -tf /dev/tape (assuming /dev/tape is your device. Further
tar -ztf lists a compressed archive.

Since the u argument only appeared to backup later copies of already
exhisting files on the tape and the r argument appended everything
again. I would use the N argument but I don't know the date format.

What is the output of mutt -v on your system?
If it doesn't contain "+LOCALES_HACK", you will probably need to
recompile mutt and pass the "--enable-locales-fix" parameter to the
configure command.

So to this end, Require'ing ash would add to the system overhead since (I
reckon) 98% of people would need to have ash installed for them, instead
of just using a standard package that everyone has already...

The two shells that are installed on EVERY Debian system by default (from
the base2_2.tgz tarball) are 'sh' and 'bash'.
sh doesn't always provide the features scripts need, but bash does, and
thus it's the default for most scripts, because we can guarantee it will
be present without needing a Depends: ash line for each .deb.

So at the moment the only way to get a fully functional nautilus in Debian

kernel.
vtun includes compression and I saw roughly a 30% effective speed
increase over a 128kbit line...
