Recently I upgraded to potato (from slink). There were dependency
problems with Python packages (and related programs).
The first error message was about a missing libtk8.3.so .
However, tk8.3 _was not_ in .deb packages, so I installed it from
source.
It went to /usr/local/lib .
However, the p
When I try just: 'xhost', it gives me an error -
Xlib: Connection to ":0.0" refused by Server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
All this I tried as root, previously as user (with the same result).
A day before it worked...
Why is it?

Did you install mutt from a .deb package or from source?
I installed it from source, as it's much newer (1.2.5) then t
I tried to use an 'apt-get install netstd' command, but received
many error messages about other packages that were selected before,
with 'dselect'. (these packages are mainly Python-related).
The error messages are about unconfigured packages.
Questions:

You can find useful monitor patterns at http://www.displaymate.com
The patterns are accessible also under

I can't go through our intranet proxy, although I configure my
apt.conf file to use it...
Is there a HOWTO about 'apt-get' ? (and other 'apt' programs?)
Please show me an URL, where I can see a usable 'apt.conf' file
using a proxy...
Thanks.

I used the 'slink' version and tried to upgrade glibc manually
from 2.0.7 to 2.1.2 . It failed, there was a 'libc-dev' conflict with
'libstdc++2.9'
Now I installed 'potato' from CD, I selected the 'libc' packages
and 'gcc' 2.95 .
If I try to compile a C source (with ./configure) it says:
"gcc
OK, I installed helix Gnome from potato CDs. Now I can login to Gnome
as root only. (the Help - which I've read - mention "to add other user",
but I didn't find how...).
- how can I add other user to Gnome?
- how can I stop Gnome? (it seems it always run after install...)

I wish to install Gnome, but I don't know what packages are needed...
What is the basic package that always needed for Gnome, and with what
command can I start Gnome?
Do I need to do some file-editing before starting it?
Thanks for any advices.
PS. maybe it's obvious for others... :)

I partially upgraded my glibc2 from 2.0.7 to 2.1.2,
I received an error message at upgrading 'libc6-dev'.
After that my system was broken (it's a slink version).
I can't compile anything now with gcc.
Now I try to upgrade to potato. I can use dselect, but after

I just upgraded from 'slink' to 'potato'. Now my /root partition is
full. Do I need the contents of the following directories, or may I
delete them?
/var/cache/apt 6 MB
/var/state/apt/lists 3.7 MB
/var/lib/dpkg/info 4.6 MB
/var/lib/dpkg/methods/multicd 1 MB
Thanks for suggestions.
