the > next apt-get upgrade. What I found in the directory Eduard mentioned in his message http://people.debian.org/~blade/ was a .deb file which appears to be the latest version with the problem patch removed: ppp_2.4.1-4.wo-kernelpatch.0_i386.deb Installing this made everything work fine.
