grub-install --root-directory=/mydir /dev/cciss/c0d0
to install in the MBR. Seems that grub gets installed but the machine
still doesn't boot from disk, I get the same error as before. Any help
please?

Hi list,
I have a ldap server running on etch installed some months ago and no
longer upgraded. The installation was done before etch was freezed.
Actually the ldap server works fine, if I erase the whole database and
rebuild it, it takes around 15 minutes.

does anybody run an openldap server on debian? I have such server
running on etch which holds a very big database. I always have problems
when restarting the server because on stop it gets corrupted. I have
investigated a little and I think it depends on the way it gets stopped
