It depends on your Window manager. Are you using KDE, Gnome or whatever?

Did you get the nvidia module working again? It would be nice if you told
whether you were successful or not...

es/drivers
# gcc -shared -o nvidia_drv.so nvidia_drv.o
Then you can install 'nvidia' in xorg.conf and restart X. It really works!!

Question of copyright. You lose nothing using Iceweasel.

It is really a problem with Iceweasel: the scrolling is fast with Konqueror!

I cannot download the Perl-script, so I cannot do an experiment with it myself.

I am using 'testing', not 'sid'. But I have encountered similar problems. In my
case it was just a version of the kernel that made that I couldn't download
with digiKam. When I installed a different kernel (and no other changes!)
everything worked fine.

can not use /dev/dsp. You should
stop all sound servers before using Audacity.
It can also help to start Audacity in a console and see if you can see error
messages that clarify what is going on.

Since some time I use an Epson Stylus C46. The support in Linux is excellent!
I think most Epson printers work fine in Linux. You should consult:
http://www.freestandards.org/en/OpenPrinting/Database/DatabaseIntro
to check whether a printer is fully supported in Linux.

I have added a new DVD burner: no problem at all. It was discovered and
everything worked immediately.
Probably the same is true for a graphics card, but I have no experience.

I never use LaTex, but are you using the right character set in LaTex?

It could be an error in your configuration (?). To test whether
/dev/video0 (and more) exist you can use the command:
xawtv -hwscan

;testing'.
I use Debian 'testing' as a desktop system for my own personal use. Of
course, if you are using your system in a production environment you
should choose 'stable' in stead of 'testing'.
Installing Debian is very easy: just download a CD for a net install
and then install your system from the net.

It works as you described in KDE. So your problem is really a Gnome
problem, not a X problem.
I can not help you with Gnome...
