this will extract the source code into a directory called (in this
example) 'kernel-source-2.4.20'
you should then create a sym. link
ie. 'ln -s kernel-source-2.4.20 linux'
you can then change to /usr/src/linux and compile your new kernel!

unfortunatly xmms seems to crash when I have xmmsarts installed.
I have problems with programs like winex and mplayer if arts is enabled
so I just don't both
stem dialog.
NOTE: You will probably find that you cannot use XMMS after you enable this!
