kernal-package in stable not including config in /boot

1997-08-12 Thread Donovan Baarda
G'day deb's Someone (Manoj?) mentioned that the new kernel-package creates kernel-image deb's that put the kernel config file in /boot. I just created a kernel-image using the kernel-package that comes in the stable distribution of debian 1.3.1, and it definitely didn't do this. Is this a feature

1997-08-12 Thread Donovan Baarda
G'day debianers, I have now tried both kernel-image 2.0.29-7 and 2.0.30-7 in the stable distribution for Debian 1.3.1, and neither have a kernel config file in /boot, and neither seem to support IP forwarding. IP forwarding worked fine with the old Debian 1.2 kernel image 2.0.27. I notice ipx su

Default caching bind config very slow??

1997-08-11 Thread Donovan Baarda
G'day all, I am using bind as a caching name server and have found that it seems to be very slow when doing reverse DNS lookups. In particular, it seems to be only caching them for about 5 minutes, and is very slow (up to 2 minutes) when it is not in the cache. It first showed up when using "who"

IP forwarding in 2.0.30 kernel??

1997-08-11 Thread Donovan Baarda
G'day all, I've installed the 2.0.30 kernel on my box that is working (Not!) as a router. It appears to not be forwarding anything. Has IP forwarding been turned off in the 2.0.30 kernel? How can I find out what the kernel configuration options used in a packaged kernel are? Is this a known probl
