I finally got my Matrox MIllenium II card to work with X and debian. The
reason I had so much trouble, is that none of the debian xserver releases
have the latest SVGAxserver with the matrox millenium driver. Not even
hamm has these drivers. Confusion is caused by the numbering of the

For information on the Matrox MIlleium II card see
http://matrox.alloy.net. That is the address for the developers of the
Xfree86 driver for it. The current debian Xfree86 package does not work
with it. You have to get the latest version of the driver. See the web
page for more details.
I would like to know if there is a way to automatically unpack all the
source code for debian, give a script some CFLAGS(like -g or -m386),
compile all of debian, and then optionaly install all the binaries. I
have used a program called dpkg-source, but that only works for
individual packages. I
I am new to debian. Recently I got one of the official CDs. I
want to be able to run the latest kernel. Actually I have to use the
latest kernel since I have a plug and play system. To use the latest
kernel one should upgrade all the development packages as outlined in
/usr/src/linux-2.
