hello!
i have a really critical problem.
i tried hdparm to enable dma access. but after some tests the system hung
and i had to shutdown manually.
now i can't boot debian anymore.
the error messsage is:

hello!
my father just updated his system to woody, now we have some isdn connection
trouble.
every config files are the same as before and everything seems to works but
when isdnutils are started, it says:

Hello list!
i recently helped my father to install debian (potato r0) on his box.
everything was fine, but X is a problem. i have to say this was ever a
problem since he upgraded his graphic card to a hercules 3d prophet which is
using the geforce MX chipset.
he tried mandrake before but when i

something i really hate about X is it's font "support".
they are either too big or too small or plain ugly.
i hope things will improve in the future..
but at the moment i only have two problems, maybe somebody can help me:
some large fonts look crippled. i see this mainly in webbrowsers (

hello!
i'm using potato and a normal isdn installation.
i get disconnected when i'm idle for about 2 minutes.
this is really annoying, cause sometimes i have problems to connect to my
provider and i don't want to wait 5 minutes for a connection, just to get
disconnected 2 minutes later.. also it
any hints?
i guess i'll upgrade.
i want a stable system, but old packages are not really stable :(
i this breaks things, can i simply remove the woody sourcelist line to
reconvert to potato?
i don't know what's up with the mandrake files but i guess it's a bug
anywhere...
yesterday evening i ran an apt-get update and it installed 96 (!) updated
kde2 packages. i just stand up, typed startx and everything was fine again.
maybe i had different versions of kdelibs and kdebase packages or
hello!
i installed the kde2 debs and everthing worked fine.
then i made an update and now i can't start it at all.
the output in .xsession-error is:

try
./configure --with-qt-dir=/path/to/qt2
i guess there is a problem finding qt2 when qt1 is installed too.
i'm not an expert in this, but maybe it works for you

hello!
i just downloaded M18 from this place and unpacked the archive to
/usr/local/mozilla/
but i have problems to start it.
when i try to run mozilla as root it says:
-
ranger:/usr/lib# /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla
/usr/local/mozilla/run-mozilla.sh /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla-bin
MOZILLA_FIV
well, isn't this a bit stupid?
i mean, to get new MORE STABLE versions i have to use the UNSTABLE tree?
why aren't stable packages for the unstable tree moved to the potato tree?
am i dammned to use years old unstable software packages until woody is
released next year?
can i use single woody pack
hello!
i just switched to debian and it simply rocks!
yesterday i added the kde2 line to sources.list, started the download and
went to bed. next morning i typed "startx" and everything was up and running!
i still can't believe it.
now the only downside of debian is that potato isn't up to date.
thanks for your help, i got it working :)
i had a really long username, containing to # chars, maybe that was the
problem.
i found out that i simply can leave out this chars.
than it works.
in the ipppd.ippp0 file i had a string like this:
user = "foo#more#bar"
it's working in the pap-secrets file

hello
i just got my first debian cd's ever and everything worked fine yet.
but like every time i have problems setting up the ISDN connection (maybe
it's the most complicated task cause i can't get online help during the
configuration ;)
i installed the isdnutils package, the kernel modules for
hello!
i want to compile optimized binarys.
so i was told to use "-O3 -mcpu=xxx -march=yyy"
where i have to replace xxx and yyy of course.
my question is, what values i have to use.
i got an athlon processor.
i *guess* it should be -mcpu=i686 -march=i368 but it's really just a wild
guess i don't
