Hey all,
I have set up my debian box as a firewall/router for my home network
(using firehol to actually make the firewall). Everything seems to be
working just fine, except that the computers behind the firewall box
can only access some websites. They can perform succesful DNS lookups
on any sit

Definately. Here in Berkeley, the UC leans in the BSD
direction, as I'm sure you can imagine (this is not
true of every UC. I hear that Davis uses a lot of
Solaris and Linux machines). I know from friends that
the City College in San Francisco also uses *nix...my

By the proper driver, do you mean that you installed
the nvidia module with nVidia's self-installer?
If you did and startx is still failing with "no
screens found" then you may simply need to load the
nvid
ernel 2.6.6?
Thanks,

An easy way to custom-compile your own kernel and then
install is to use make-kpkg.
You need to download the kernel source, then you unzip
it (put it in the /usr/src directory). Remove the
'linux' symlink to the old source directory and make a
new one to your new kernel source dir. cd
ble.

Installing the current nvidia gfx drivers in 2.6 is
actually real simple. You can download their
self-installer from nvidia.com's driver section and
run it with the sh. It Just Worked for me (well, it
worked after I found some good workarounds for all
the lockups my nForce mobo caused). You may
Thanks for all your help, hopefully my problem is now
resolved.
I am using the idle=pass argument in my lilo.conf
(reading man lilo.conf made me realize my prior
mistake) and ACPI is not compiled in my kernel (in
fact, no power management modules are). I never did
figure out how to use the hdparm
Thanks for all your suggestions, however none of them
are working - all of the lilo.conf changes return
"unrecognized token" errors. Is there some stupid
thing I'm missing here? Are they appends and not
standard lilo.conf arguments?
Thanks again,

since all power
management has been not been compiled, even as
modules. My kernel has no acpi in it.
Again, what is causing these "unrecognized token at or above " errors?

Hi all. I'm new to Debian and I have a problem:
modversions.h doesn't exist. I know this has been
mentioned before, but those threads didn't help me. I
need to install the nForce drivers to use my

I use make, the modversions.h not found erro
