Inspired by a very good article about ALSA in the German magazine c't
26/2003, I finally got the ALSA dmix plugin working fine and thus rid of
problems with apps blocking each other on sound playback, without
needing any of the sound servers which all are unsatisfactory for me
(not to mention that
s may already have happened.
Indeed, totem 0.99.2-1 works fine for me with xlibs 4.3.0-0pre1v1, FWIW.

I doubt it, sounds like an X bug. As a workaround, you could have your
display manager always restart the X server.

diald for dialling up on demand and masquerading.
It works until diald actually tries to establish the link. It dials, and upon
connect it starts pppd, which sends some LCP requests. That's all. After some
