not a question I really expect an answer to, but: I'm looking for a PL/I
compiler preferably cheap or free. Noone except IBM seems to be making
them anymore. For obvious reasons I prefer Linux, Unix, or Win platform :)

The battery on my laptop seems to be shot so it doesn't keep the time
correctly...when I netdate to my ISP, the screen blanks for some
reason...any ideas? (I think this is a hamm version, but I'm not sure, I'm

Hmm. I look at my printcap, and by default it's set to lp1.

If your printer is at lp0 that would certainly explain why

) I have AMI BIOS as well,
I'm not sure what specific feature it is that initializes sound card, but
don't set the BIOS to think that the OS is PnP compliant or whatever,
because as soon as I did that, nothing worked :(

the folders by orderedsubj? I'm getting kinda tired of hunting around my
inbox for emails from specific persons, but like OrderedSubj for lists
like this one :)

There are quite a few encyclopedias on CDs nowadays and I was wondering if
there was some way of reading them with Linux? Or, alternately, if there
was a Linux version for any of them? I know this seems a bit off-the-wall

Christmas myself, but they seem to be in $600+
range, so I'd have to be utterly saintly to get that :) Pix appear to be
about 80K jpegs (YMMV) so you can fit quite a few on a single floppy (only
to discover that the floppy is bad ;)

Unless you have a laptop you don't need pcmcia :) (well, ok, some machines
- alphas for example - may come with pcmcia readers..). But generally,
just get rid of it.

If you haven't messed with config. files, it may well be because it's
running in 8-bit mode. Try -bpp 16 or 32...

seems to backup about 95% of what I want and then
just stops at that point - no error, no nothing, just freezes. Really not
sure what's wrong with it :(

I am experiencing the same problem - the only difference I can see from
previous config was that it tries to use hardware cursor (that's the only
line that even remotely pertains that I can see). Any guesses?
